Oh how I am so thankful

There are many things to be thankful for this season, for example I am very grateful for a loving husband and sweet beautiful daughter. I am grateful for a wonderful house to live in and to make memories in. Oh heck I'm even grateful for the new windshield wipers on my car so I can actually see the road as I'm driving through this pouring rain.
But I will tell you this... the one thing I am certainly not grateful for this season is waking up on Thanksgiving morning with a BAD case of food poisoning.
Come on now...it's Thanksgiving for craps sake! We have 365 days out of the year and I have to eat a bad Chic-fil-a sandwich the day before Thanksgiving??!
So thank you deluxe chicken sandwich for ruining my day and leaving me running to the bathroom every two minutes. Thank you for allowing me to eat only a small pile of corn and even smaller amount of potatoes.

Sigh! So you bet I am eating all the turkey I want to this Christmas. =)

So be grateful this season for all the things you have...even if that thing is Imodium-AD.

Turns out the uncrafty woman is actually just a teensy bit crafty after all!

This week I have been putting together birthday invites to send out for Melia's birthday. (Holy Moses my daughter is going to be 2 already!!) Now they are not to professional but I spent long agonizing hours cutting and gluing and stickering and be-dazzling (ok not really be-dazzling...is that even around anymore??) and I feel quite accomplished. I wasn't too sure of how the final product would look, I was kind of throwing whatever I thought was cute into my cart at Joann's.
I even went all out and spent a whole whopping $2.99 on a cute font! I know... so very professional of me! haha
I wanted the jungle animal theme this year because if you know Melia, then you know that she has a love for animals and can tell you EVERY sound an animal makes...with her favorites being an elephant, lion and of course monkeys.
But for some reason I always find myself having a difficult time planning events. I start out with a very detailed list but along the way everything that has to get done jumbles around in my head and I get stressed out and flustered, so then I put it all to the back of my head and I don't pull it out until the day before and then it is cram time. Maybe I perform better under pressure? I have no clue!
It's not a kids party this year, just family and close friends, since it is on a Sunday (Bryce couldn't get any Saturdays off!) it won't be too wild. But I will have to bring cupcakes or something to playgroup the week before so Melia can spend time with all her little buddies...meaning that I get to hang out with my girls too!

I enlarged it so you could read the catchy little jingle! =)

Poop Cookies!

That is right people! I said poop cookies! And you can't knock em' till you've tried em'!
I have been making these cookies since I was about 10 years old and they are still my favorite.
You have probably had these before...possibly under a different name but if you haven't, break out your pans and get to cookin! It couldn't be any easier. They cook in the same pan you mix it in, and you don't even have to bake them! Instant choclification!

So I love on the Pioneer Woman's blog how she meticulously goes through each step of her recipes, picture by picture, to ensure a tasty treat... So here I was snapping away with my camera, and as I was reviewing these mighty fine pictures and feeling so accomplished...I noticed how disgustingly old and falling apart my cookware is! Holy cow I guess you don't really notice it until other people are going to look at it too... OK they weren't that bad but 5 years of constant use does not look so good on print! =) So now that I know what I am asking for Christmas...you will just have to trust to get this done by yourself...

But I do promise you a fabulous chocolate induced coma for you when you are through! Enjoy!

So here it goes...

Poop Cookies

1 stick butter (as my girl Paula Deen has said...I am your cook, not your doctor)
3 Tbsp. cocoa (or 2sq. of unsweetened chocolate)
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk (you can use fat free if you are feeling over indulged)

Melt all four ingredients together in a saucepan and boil for one minute.
Remove from heat and add:

1/2 c. peanut butter (that's right...become one with the peanut butter)
1tsp. vanilla
3 c. oats (I just used regular Stater's brand)

Mix well until blended.
Lay some foil, wax, parchment...whatever is lying around, and plop (hence the name!) the sweet morsels onto it and let set. Make them as big or small as you want...they don't have to be pretty or perfect or anything. But they will resemble (ahem) ... no bake chocolate cookies.

Last couple of days

So after ranting and raving like a crazy woman I have decided to step back, take a quick breather, and get back to my life. Here are some random pictures I took this week of Melia.

Long before Melia was ever thought of I always imagined myself having a baby girl and being able to play with her hair. Cute ponytails, pigtails, braids, etc. I wanted to do it all! So after receiving an otherwise healthy and perfect baby girl I looked at her and said...where is her hair?? Why is my baby bald?! So this baby girl grew and grew as did her hair. Except it didn't get longer and longer, the curls got tighter and tighter!! I mean who the heck in our family has curly hair?? The mailman??...hey I'm just sayin I cant figure it out either! So yesterday, the day finally came when I attempted to put pigtails...((more like pig wispies)) in her hair. I am not saying they are the most lovely to look at but they served their purpose for a whole 5 minutes before she tore them out completely, but what did I expect!? I have waited years for these pictures...I think they are adorable.

Here is Melia hangin out with an old friend

On a friends blog a while back she had posted pictures of her and her daughter making cookies together. I had commented that I couldn't wait for Melia to get older so I could do that too. And I got to thinking... she is old enough...sort of. It may be messy and chaotic, but tons of fun. She loved stirring the mix. I think her favorite part was watching the yolk fall from the shell when I cracked the eggs. You should of seen her face! I laughed so hard you would have thought I had just performed the best magic trick! She turned out to be the best little helper!

Just when you thought it was over...

*just push play again when the video stops halfway...

Today at the LA temple there were thousands of protesters in the street surrounding the temple, calling us a hateful mormon cult, chanting "shame on you" and "stop the hate" and were "demonstrating" ...I'm not too sure what they were trying to demonstrate - selfishness - immaturity - lack of respect of people's constitutional rights...hmmm, what do you think??
Signs of the times, we are definitely living it. These people do not try to understand our moral beliefs, our family values and our religious goals. And I know, it is HARD to combine the plan of salvation and proclamation to the families all in a single short conversation, especially to someone who isn't listening anyways. They tell us to be open minded and to love everyone, which we do...so who is showing the hate now??
What makes us a better person anyways... standing up and being strong in the face of adversity and holding on to our beliefs - or becoming hypocrites and throwing it all away by the wayside??

Oh well society says it's OK...so it must be.

So shame on you for showing our father in heaven that we will truly stand for him at all times and in all places..
Shame on you for trying to get your family to the celestial kingdom...
And shame on you for not giving in to society...
Please now...let it be over so we can all have some peace.

ABSOLUTELY RELIEVED

For those who haven't heard yet, PROP 8 HAS PASSED!!!! I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am for this! It was an extremely close race with the results being 52% yes to 48% no. It was closer then I thought it would be and I was praying so hard last night that it would pass., Im sure all of you were too! So we are safe...for now. But I am confused about Prop 4 not passing, but I guess times are changing and people take on abortion issues very lightly. Grrr...
Anyways-

So I have listed all of the prop results just for you so you don't have to google and search like I did. Have a great day! I know I will!

Fall sunsets

I know I have been tagged previously to do this...but I was at my grandparents house in Utah so I used their picture files. So being tagged again I get to use MY files...and also I have nothing else to post...so here it is! (The 4th picture in my 4th file)
I took this picture last fall. It is one thing I love about the location of our house is that we have a perfect view of sunrises and sunsets, and in the fall we have absolutely beautiful sunsets!

Ok ladies I tag anyone who has nothing else to post and has a neat 4th picture in their forth file!

Halloween 08

A quick look back in time...

Blast from the past! Last year's Halloween

Oh how I miss my little ladybug...

Look how BIG she's gotten!

An honest attempt of fingerwaving a one year old's hair!!!

The star of the show!

CHEESE!!!

Posing for a picture

She got to eat A LOT of candy!

What a cutie!

Melia did so good...we went to about 15 houses and she wanted to walk the entire time!

She had so much fun trick or treating

We love Halloween!

A ride in daddy's car!

Halloween was SO much fun this year! Melia went trick or treating for the first time and had a blast doing it. She thought it was so cool that she was getting so much candy from everybody. Our real treat though was having Bryce stop by during work for dinner at my mom's house (in his beat) and spending time with him. It really stinks that he has to work on ALL the holidays this year!
